When in Hawaii, do like the Hawaiians… and that means plenty of delicious tropical fruit. I generally don’t eat more than 1 or 2 servings a fruit per day, but here on vacation in the land of sugarloaf pineapple, strawberry papaya, pink pomelos, apple bananas, and an abundance of other local treats, my fruit intake has gone up.
Here’s a simple tropical smoothie, made with local fruit, but can be easily made anywhere. At home, I try to always keep a few bananas in the freezer for smoothies. Peel them first!
- 1/2 banana, frozen
- 1/2 cup frozen pineapple (I used Hawaiian pineapple)
- 1 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1 serving protein of your choice
- A few ice cubes
- Blend it up and enjoy!
- Add some fat to make it a full meal (ex. coconut milk to your smoothie, or a handful of nuts / serving of avocado on the side)
