I had so much fun talking to Audra Baker and I can’t wait for you to listen to this episode!
Here’s a few things I LOVE about this episode:
Audra only cussed once (though admitting she talks like a sailor)
Both her action items included SHOPPING (yes please!)
She’s completely real.
Audra has been an inspiration to me since I first heard of her in 2011. And, the first time I met her, I was so nervous (though I never told her that ;). Audra Baker has been in the fitness industry for more than 20 years. She started, like me, with a degree in Kinesiology (and actually stayed an extra semester because she wanted to take a salsa dance class that conflicted with an upper division bio-mechanics class). She fell in love with nutrition and became a Nutrition Educator through Bauman College. There she learned about real food, holistic nutrition and studied every diet from Paleo to Vegan.
Finally, and thankfully, she found the Institute for the Psychology of Eating. And she summed it up perfectly: understanding what to eat is important, but for 90% of the clients she works with- it’s not the problem! She’s now highly equipped with the skills to help her clients end the awful dieting-binge cycle, emotional eating, over eating, and all the other crazy things we do around food. I especially love working with women around body image, and have had great success helping reclaim energy, work with immune issues, and heal digestion. Finally, in the past few years she’s fallen in love with yoga on a completely different level. She’s going to talk a bit more about her journey with yoga in the show.
My thank you gift to you: I’ve put together a fun cheat sheet to help you choose better quality food. I break down each category of food into “not-so-great”, “I’ll take it”, “now we’re talking” and “best!” to help you in the grocery store (or garden). Thanks for listening!
In episode 6 of the Fit and Vibrant You Podcast, we tackled topics like:
- What happens to your body when you think about food as ‘good’ and ‘bad’
- Why you shouldn’t exercise to lose weight
- The cause of unwanted eating habits like binge eating, overeating an emotional eating, and what to do about it.
